The project

One canal, years of research

The Chesterfield Canal Archive is Christine Richardson's research archive of the Chesterfield Canal: years of study of one waterway, gathered into a single place. Material like that is only useful if people can find their way into it, so the site was built to make the research browsable rather than buried, with clear sections, readable pages and room for the archive to keep growing. A WordPress build shaped around the content rather than the other way around.

The outcome

An archive anyone can browse

Christine Richardson's research on the Chesterfield Canal now has a public home of its own, structured so that a casual reader and a serious researcher can both get somewhere with it, and with room to keep adding as the work continues. It launched in 2026.
